Yes, it’s December, but you don’t have to give up grilling your favorite foods. Instead of retreating indoors, try these tips to get the most out of your barbecue grill this winter.

Dress the part

Bundle up. Dress like you’re going out to shovel the walk, but no scarfs, tassels, or fabrics that dangle and could catch fire easily. Those gloves without fingertips are a good choice to keep warm and safely handle your tools.

Preheating

Preheating your grill is really important when it’s cold outside. Your barbeque grill is going to need extra time to get up to optimum operating temperature when it’s chilly. So make sure that you allow more time. The goal is to have your grill grates hot when it’s time to start grilling so you’ll have fewer problems with foods sticking to them and you’ll get those signature grill marks that everyone loves. That can take up to 30 minutes, so plan ahead to make your meal come together on time.

Fast cooking foods

Winter is not the time to grill a whole chicken. You should choose foods that naturally cook faster instead. This will minimize your time outside. Burgers, bacon wrapped chicken legs, chicken breasts, bratwurst, hot dogs and steaks are all good choices. Avoid the larger cuts of meat like pork loins, bone in turkey breasts and whole chickens.

Set a Timer

If you have your heart set on beer can chicken, or you’re using you barbeque grills for your Christmas ham, you should set a timer so you know when to go outside and check the grill. Then sit back and relax until the timer goes off. If you’re new to grilling, you’ll probably need to go outside more frequently. With practice you’ll catch on and know how to time you trips outdoors, like an experienced winter griller.

Keep tanks full

If using propane make sure your tank or tanks are kept full. Check your grill tank today and get it filled at our fill station before you decide to fire up the grill.

Eat hearty. Stay warm.

Even when the weather outside is cold and snowy you don’t have to give up your favorite grilled

meals. Use these tips to enjoy the great taste of grilled meats and veggies all year round. Make your neighbors jealous!
