What is a Direct Vent Fireplace?

A direct vent system is a very efficient alternative to a traditional gas fireplace. Direct Vent Fireplaces are factory built and their venting can be routed directly through a wall to the outside, using rigid or flexible venting. Direct Vent fireplaces function by drawing fresh air into the firebox from outside, which makes a distinct difference from a traditional masonry fireplace or insert. This improves efficiency, maintains the air quality and distributes heat evenly throughout your room, eliminating drafts or cold spots.

One of the most attractive features of a Direct Vent fireplace is that they can be operated without electricity! Electricity is needed to power the blower and other accessories. The burner and flame control can be powered by a self-generating millivolt system or regular batteries. That’s what makes a Direct Vent Fireplace popular choice among buyers.

To install a Direct Vent Fireplaces vent system that incorporates vent pipes, one inside the other is used. A flexible vent system allows installers to maneuver around obstacles, such as joists, beams or wall supports. Flex Vent is easy to install, and there are fewer pieces and connections needed when put together.

How does a Direct Vent Fireplace work?

  1. Direct-Vent-Diagram-887x1024-318x367Combustion air is drawn from outside the building
  2. Cool room air is pulled into the lower chamber; it will circulate around the firebox and is released into the room as warm air via the fan. The heat from the central burner also emits more radiant heat from the face of the unit, into your living space.
  3. The Terminal is mounted outside, connecting to the fireplace indoors.
  4. Venting exits from the top or rear of the fireplace to allow more versatility for installation
  5. Optional rear exhaust
  6. Direct vent power venting can be installed to go around stairways, up, down and around most objects in any space.
